Alsafra to rebound
Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

THE flying filly ALSAFRA, unraced since June, steps down in class for tomorrow's 1200-metre 10th race after just two attempts among graded stakes runners, both second-place finishes.

Even though she comes in at 56.0 kilos against all colts barring the imported LITTLE WASP, ALSAFRA's proven class and mid-race pace should see her pouncing in the stretch run, as MR SKILL is expected to have the field off its feet for at least a half-mile.

However, the fleet-footed gelding should be begging for the wire inside the final half-furlong where ALSAFRA is expected to be strongest coming forward.

Shane Ellis, who is aboard ALSAFRA, should notch a second winner on the 11-race card as Anthony Nunes' two-year-old, SPORTS STAR, has been catching birds at exercise.

The railbirds were left gasping last Sunday morning as SPORTS STAR set off five lengths behind WORKING IMAGE in a five-furlong spin and caught up with his three-year-old stablemate at the quarter pole before clocking an eye-popping 58.3 on the round course.

Carl Anderson's LAWS OF THE CAT only needs kind rating from apprentice Aaron Chatrie in the third at 1200 metres after being stopped by RIVER STYX in a fast 1:06.3 at 1100 metres mid-September.

At 50.0 kilos, LAWS OF THE CAT can coast to the final furlong and a half before Chatrie asks her to run away from the chasing pack.

rewarded

AWESOME REWARD should be rewarded for consistency in the fourth at 1000 metres straight after sound efforts in her last three runs. In fact, she seemed all over a winner at 1000 metres round on August 29 but was nailed by RUM TALK at the wire.

Her subsequent effort at 1300 metres was a bit outside her distance but she still carried rivals into the lane and also ran a big one last Saturday, leading to the furlong pole before running out of steam inside the final 50 metres.

Champion and leading jockey Omar Walker has a neat double lined up, as he returns off a two-day ban - REGGAE PRINCESS in the eighth at 1000 metres straight and KEELER in the 11th at 1500 metres.

REGGAE PRINCESS returned off a 10-month lay-up last week Wednesday at 1200 metres to lead down the backstretch and turned for home four lengths third in splits of 23.0, 34.0 behind five-length winner JAYLEN.

She was light then at 48.5 kilos, but has only picked up seven pounds to accommodate the champion rider replacing an apprentice.

KEELER steps down in class in the Track Price Plus Dig-Out Handicap following her big win on a $270,000 tag at 1820 metres.

Lazel Khwalsingh knows the eight-year-old mare and she should turn the table on DUST ROCK, who had beaten her at the shorter distance of 1100 metres on August 8.
