J Wray and Nephew to reignite Portmore's 'spirit' for cricket

David Walton, brand manager of J Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum, said his company will be doing its utmost best to bring back the community 'spirit' for cricket in Portmore.

"We want a 'spirited' entertainment to get the family come back out and enjoy a game of cricket on a Sunday. To enjoy some J Wray and Nephew white overproof cocktails, play some music and two games of dominoes to bring back the community spirit," Walton said.

He added that with his company's assistance there can be "more community and sporting development not only in Portmore but for Jamaica".

Walton was speaking recently at a Wray and Nephew Overproof Rum/ Portmore Cricket league launch in the municipality.

acquiring lands

Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds, who hosted the function, endorsed Wray and Nephew's commitment to the league. He later stressed that Portmore cricket badly needed grounds to play the sport, and he was willing to meet with stakeholders in an attempt to acquire lands for the development of cricket grounds.

The league has 10 participating cricket clubs from different parts of Portmore.
