Saving Jamaica |
|||||
THE EDITOR, Sir: No matter which administration we supported in the general elections, we must be apolitical now to restore some amount of hope in our country. We need the support of every Jamaican to bring us out of the 'deficit gutter'. Now is the time to unite and behave like we are operating a coalition government. The new International Monetary Fund policy, which is geared for debt repayment, must be examined by the best economists in Jamaica, such as Ralston Hyman, Lambert Brown, Kevin O'Brian Chang and Dennis Chung to save us from this crisis. The people must be made aware of the working reality of the new IMF fiscal policies. The unavailability of natural resources poses a problem. We can use creative measures to salvage opportunities which will render our economy a viable enterprise. Public institutions could make concerted efforts to save energy by switching to solar power. People could buy produce made locally and we can produce more. We are a resilient people, so we can come out of these conditions. I am, etc., Paris Taylor paristaylor82@hotmail.com Greater Portmore |
