Dancehall artiste Spice was yesterday greeted with shocking news as two alleged female robbers attempted to steal pieces of garments from her Spicey Couture fashion boutique, which is located in Mall Plaza, St Andrew.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that at around 3:20 p.m. yesterday, nine females said to be of medium-built sizes, entered the premises. The group, according to an eyewitness, then split up as the two females in question made their way through the store.

It is said that the females looked suspicious upon entering the store but the sales clerk, who was on duty at that time, did not pay enough attention to them. However, after a spot check, which was done by the mall security, pieces of garments were found hidden in the trousers of the females without any receipts.

The situation was then brought to Spice's attention, and she was required to identify the pieces. One piece of the garment was said to be a jumper, which was on sale for $3,800. The Police and Hawkeye were also informed about the situation.

not pressing charges

One section of the store's policy is that, should a person be caught illegally with any piece of item, they are required to pay four times the amount. But, the deejay, known for the songs Fight Over Man and Quint It, told THE STAR that she wouldn't be pressing any charges against the criminals.

"The Police and Hawkeye were called. They asked me if I want to press charges against them but I don't have any time for that because of the court issues," she said. The items were later returned to the store.

"When I went inside the store, one of my co-workers said two suspicious females came in. They never paid them much attention but the security downstairs call me and asked me to come identify some clothes items. They told me the females had it without any receipts," said the deejay, born Grace Hamilton.

Spice said the accused robbers later apologised to her and they were taken to the Half-Way Tree Police station.

When contacted by THE STAR, a corporal, who requested to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident. He said the women were released after being severely warned.

"Yes, there was an incident. Spice indicated that she didn't want to press charges. So we gave them a stern warning and let them go," the police corporal said.
