NEW YORK CITY, New York (CMC): The Jamaica-born forward Jeff Cunningham has won the Budweiser US Major League Soccer (MLS) Golden Boot Award for the second time in his career, after notching 17 goals in the regular season. Playing for FC Dallas, Cunningham's career-best 17 strikes made him the top goalscorer ahead of Conor Casey (16) at the end of the regular season last weekend. He joins Trinidad and Tobago international Stern John, Taylor Twellman, Carlos Ruiz, and Roy Lassiter as two-time Golden Boot winners. Cunningham's 17-goal total surpassed his previous career-high of 16 goals, which he achieved twice, with Real Salt Lake in 2006 and the Columbus Crew in 2002. His 16-goal campaign in 2006 earned him his first Golden Boot. Originally from Montego Bay on Jamaica's north coast, Cunningham is among the all-time scoring leaders in MLS history. He is second all-time on the career scoring list with 121 regular season goals, just 10 behind DC United forward Jaime Moreno. |
