Too tough to handle? |
|||||
The recent resignation of Commissioner of Police, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, is indeed cause for concern. As pointed out in The Gleaner's lead story on Monday, two police chiefs and two security ministers have resigned in the last two years. This does not look very good for the nation's security, and is a clear indication that something is dreadfully amiss. Are we to assume from these resignations that the job is simply too much for these officials? Must we now simply accept that crime has taken over and no one can do anything about it? There is no doubt that this latest resignation has left many persons uneasy. It is obvious that something is wrong with the nation's security as there must be a reason why no one can keep, or is interested in keeping the job as commissioner of police. We sincerely hope that a fit and qualified replacement is identified soon, and that this person will stay in the job for more than a year. At least this will give the impression, if nothing more, that something is being done about our security woes. |
