Carl Gilchrist, Star Writer
Brothers Little Hero and PZ, from Farm Town, St Ann, have been creating waves on the local music scene of late. Buoyed by the success of his big single, Cassava, Andrew Mystic, better known as PZ, is set to release his debut album Out There in January 2010. PZ is busy in the studios with his brother, under the guidance of producer Delroy Roberts, adding finishing tracks to complete the album in time for the new year. "I have about 12 tracks already, I want about 16. Cassava will be one of the main tracks on the album. I also have a track named Jungle Out There that's doing very well and the Number One Song that I just did, so we have a couple nice songs out on the album, PZ told THE WEEKEND STAR. The album is being produced by his long time producer, Roberts, on his 'Inspired' label. PZ broke on the scene last year with Cassava, a social commentary that reflected popular opinion regarding efforts by the Government to encourage farming of the tuber. Hot 103 chart Cassava was number one in St Croix and on the New York Hot 103 chart. It is doing quite well worldwide and continues to be popular in the dancehall. PZ's career in music is his second career path, as he was first a Physical Education (PE) teacher at York Castle (his last job), having graduated from GC Foster College, where he wrote the school song. After linking up with his brother Little Hero, doing backing vocals before eventually coming to the fore, teaching is now a thing of the past. "Now it's strictly music," said the affable entertainer. For the future, the sky is the limit he said. "We just want the world to hear our music 'cause we're doing it from our hearts and it's clean music and we just want them to hear the message 'cause we know we're here for a purpose," he said. Meanwhile, since his resurgence a few years back after an accident threatened to cut short his musical career, Paul Gayle, known in the reggae world as Little Hero, has not looked back. His mission is to let the entire world hear his music. Hero's career has blossomed lately with his debut album, Revelation, topping the Billboard reggae charts earlier this year. While no figures are readily available, the album continues to do well in the US and Europe. Not one to waste time, Hero now has three singles blazing the airwaves - Cry for the Poor, (aka In the City); Farm Town, named after his community, and a track called Rainbow on which he pays tribute to the girls who are "pretty like a rainbow". His next project is a follow-up album to Revelation, which is yet to be named, but slated for a release in February 2010. topped Billboard "We're looking forward to the next album. Already, four companies have said they are interested in it," Hero told THE WEEKEND STAR. "The first album topped Billboard, the second one I'm looking for the Grammy." Asked about their future in music, Little Hero replied: "We're not going to stop working because music is our life and our life is music. We have good messages in the music for the people to hear, so our dream is to have people all over the world hear our music." Before year-end, both brothers will be performing overseas, PZ in Atlanta and Suriname whereas Hero is scheduled to perform in Atlanta, California, Suriname, England, Trinidad and St Lucia. Early next year he heads out to continental Europe for more shows. Notwithstanding the hectic schedule, Hero finds time to build the musical vibes at home and has started a series of shows called God Alone Saturday (named after his first hit God Alone), every second Saturday at Club Jamaica Jamaica in Runaway Bay. "It's doing very well, we have to say thanks to Cliff, the owner of the club," Hero said. Among the artistes to have performed on the series so far are Capleton, Perfect, Romaine Virgo, Zamunda, Ras Penco, Poor and Boasy, Jah Vinci and many others. |
