Two shot,injured in gang war

A 49-year-old woman and a 19-year-old young man are now in serious condition in hospital after a shooting incident in Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine yesterday.

Information reaching THE STAR is that about 3:30 p.m. both persons from Boston Road, Waterford, were standing along the roadway when men armed with guns alighted from a vehicle and started firing several shots at them.

The woman was shot in the lower abdomen and buttocks. Police say the teen was chased on to Portland East where he was shot three times (in both sides and his right hand).

serious condition

THE STAR was told that both persons were rushed to hospital where they were taken to the operating theatre in serious condition.

Investigators say the shooting is related to an internal gang feud in the Portland East area. A detective told this newspaper that there has been tension among the members of a gang in that area for sometime, resulting in the group splitting into two.

The lawman said that the teen was aligned to one of the factions and was the likely target of the attack. The woman, on the other hand, was just an innocent bystander.

Eleven spent shells and three live rounds were taken from the scene. The attackers escaped in a waiting car.
