Action at Kirkvine Sports Club should be fast and furious as four teams with chances of making the quarter-final meet in the final double-header decider of the second round in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta competition tomorrow.

In the curtain-raiser at 1 p.m., the current Group Three leaders, Spaldings, take on Clarendon College, while in the feature game of the afternoon, Group Four leaders, Manchester High, match strides with St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

play for pride

STETHS in Santa Cruz and Jamalco in Clarendon will also host matches. Munro and Bellefield, playing at STETHS, will merely play for pride as the chances of both were ended on the weekend after suffering defeats.

A similar fate holds for the encounter between Lennon and Edwin Allen in the first game at 1 p.m. at Jamalco. Ben Francis champions Glenmuir will hold the spotlight in the feature game at the venue, playing Bogwalk.

Kirkvine is where most of central Jamaica's interest is focus. Manchester and Spaldings can both afford draws and still qualify as the top team from their respective zones. Even with the worst-case scenario of a loss, the six points already in the bag might still land one of the two spots reserved for best second-place teams. However, that option is not on the cards, according to Dr Carl Bruce, one of the key supporters behind the Manchester team.

"Last year, we got six points and it was not enough, so that is nowhere near our thoughts," Bruce told The Star when quizzed on his team's pre-game prospects.

With four points accumulated from their previous two games, Clarendon and STETHS have no choice but to go for broke and obtain maximum points and deny the more fancied Spaldings and Manchester.
