Chabano Nkani continues musical quest

American-based reggae artiste Chabano Nkani's journey in the music business has not been an easy one. Despite this, the St Andrew native, has soldiered on through the years, seeking his big break.

After losing the very first job he landed after leaving high school, he decided to pursue his dreams of becoming a singer. As faith would have it, in 2000 he met artiste manger/producer Byron Murray, who had just set up his company, In The Streetz Records.

Realising that his dreams of becoming a recording artiste would not be an easy task, Chabano went to work for Byron Murray. During his stint with In The Streetz Records, he learnt a lot about several important areas of the music business, such as record distribution, road management and music production.

In 2001, Chabano formed his own record label - Isle of Springs Records. That same year, he produced a big hit song for Warrior King titled Jah Is Always There, which was included on Warrior King's debut album. Chabano has also produced songs for other artistes, such as Half Pint, Luciano, Spragga Benz, T.O.K, George Nooks, Natural Black and Chico, just to name a few.

In 2003,Chabano parted company with Byron Murray and went to work for his namesake, Richard Browne of B Rich Records and T.O.K. fame.While at B Rich Records,Chabano continued to work in the area of record distribution and music production.

Chabano also recorded several songs under the guidance of RichardBrowne, such as Sunshine,Write Your Name and Sorry, which was accompanied by a music video which was shot and directed by Terminal Four Productions team. He also recorded a song for top-flight producer Rohan 'Snow Cone' Fuller.

Inearly 2007, Chabano migrated to the United States to be withhis mother,who was ailing from cancer. And after she passed in early 2009, he forced himself back into the studio.

Since then,he has recorded a number oftracks under the guidance of Richard Browne for hisupcoming album which is tentatively titled Guiding Light. This album is scheduled to be released early next year. Before the album comes out, however, he says fans will be treated to a single from the album titled Can't Live (Got To Leave). This single will be released in December. The single will be followed by a music video that will be shot and released in January.
