Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
The Old Harbour police in St Catherine are still searching for a man who broke into a car, stole $1 million and escaped in a waiting car. About 11 a.m. Tuesday, a contractor went to a bank in the community to transact business. He reportedly parked his car near the Old Harbour market. While conducting the business he was alerted that someone had broken into his vehicle and upon checking realised the money had been stolen. Spanish Town Police are searching for the man, who headed in the direction of Spanish Town after he took the bag with the money. "To the best of my knowledge the police are still in search for this man and is asking for any information that would assist in the process," a policeman told The Star. He said it appears the culprit was watching his victim before he carried out the theft and from all indications he did not act alone. Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent Clive Blair, Operation Officer for the St. Catherine south division, told The Star that at this time of the year people must be more vigilant when dealing with large sums of money. "They can ask the police for assistance in transporting the money as the criminals are on the lookout for new victims, so one has to be prepared," Blair said. |
