Concerned for the elderly |
|||||
Once again, there was another attack on the elderly in our society. On Wednesday, THE STAR published a story about an 83-year-old woman whose throat had been slashed by a robber. According to the story, the woman was at home when the attacker entered. She reportedly called out to the man and, instead of running away, he slashed the woman's throat. She is now recovering in hospital. This story is the latest in a series of attacks on the elderly, and it points to a general lack of respect for golden-agers. Gone are the days when the elderly and children were protected from attacks and were spared by even the most daring criminals. Today, everyone is fair game. We certainly hope that the authorities will move with haste to catch this criminal, as clearly he is quite ruthless and heartless. Any person that can slash the throat of an 83-year-old woman, and a woman he apparently knows too, is someone that needs to be behind bars. Our country is in a very sad state when the lives of the elderly are treated with very little concern, and it shows just how casually the criminals among us operate. We certainly must do our part to help the police to nab these murderers and robbers, as they surely cannot do it alone. Everyone is affected by crime. It is, therefore, the duty of every citizen to help solve crime. |
