Portmore twinned with Floridian city
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The twinning of Portmore and the city of Lakeland, Florida, is set to bring positive changes to the Portmore Municipal Council, which has already received equipment and other items from our Floridian neighbours.

"So far, we will be getting a water truck from the mayor of Lakeland who had just visited with us in Portmore and it is a fruitful meeting and we intend to continued on the strengthening of the relationship,'' Portmore's Mayor Keith Hinds told THE PORTMORE STAR.

less spending

Hinds believes that if the municipality gets a tractor with the capacity to clean drains, it would help the Portmore Municipal Council to function with less spending for drain cleaning. "Among the discussions we had were for the councils to embarked on an exchange programme, first for teachers and then we extend it to the students,'' Hinds continued.

He said that Lakeland Mayor Ralph 'Buddy' Fletcher's visit to the municipality allowed for greater collaboration between both bodies which will help Portmore to grow in the near future.

The Portmore municipality is also opening the invitation to Sister Cities International, a non-profit citizen diplomacy network, to host an upcoming conference.

Earlier this year, the mayor of Portmore had led a delegation to Lakeland to formalise the twinning of both cities.
