Woman throws stone in self-defence

A woman pleaded guilty with explanation in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, for using a stone to inflict injury to someone.

Karrol Kelly of a Corporate Area address, is charged with wounding with intent.

Allegations are that the accused used a stone to inflict wounds to a woman. Kelly told the court she acted out of self-defence.

She said she was eight months pregnant at the time of the incident. She said she turned over a bath of water in a nearby grass after washing some clothes and this angered the complainant who was also washing at the time.

She said the complainant started making negative comments about her which she ignored and then went to the line to hang out her clothes. While hanging out her laundry, the accused told the court the complainant continued making her negative comments and then slapped her in her face.

The accused woman said the complainant then attacked her with a piece of iron so she took up a stone and threw it at her. A trial date has been set for January 6, 2010.
