Applauding the Gully-Gaza union

Like many Jamaicans, it is our hope that the 'Gullaza', 'Glaza' or however you may so term it, union of deejays Vybz Kartel and Mavado at the recently held Tivoli Jamboree was and will prove to be, a genuine one.

We are not bashing the acts, but a similar move had fallen through before. Nonetheless, we applaud the move and how genuine it appeared to be. From clippings of the show broadcast online, both artistes hugged, shook hands, and Vybz Kartel even told Mavado that he was his brother and he loved him. Whether this is the most misused word or not, again, we sincerely hope that what was said and done was real.

To the fans out there, we can only ask that you take notes from the pages of your mentors and emulate what they did on stage in your everyday lives, live in unity. There really is no need to be tearing each other down because we may tend to like a man's music over another's. It is called preference and is a very big part of the living experience because it adds variety.

Now, seeing that there is, peace and seeing that both bosses, as was displayed on the stage, enjoyed each other's music, let us all try to do the same, given that you listen to dancehall.

So whatever it is that you may say, Gully or Gaza, let us all keep the peace and keep the love going.
