'Stoplight terrorists' |
|||||
There has always been talk from the police about zero tolerance approaches to crime and criminals. What is interesting to note however, is that these approaches never seem to pertain to the many window washers who have annoyingly positioned themselves at the many stoplights in the Corporate Area. In many instances, these men and boys are very near to police stations yet they terrorise, threaten and assault motorists on a daily basis. These window boys or whatever they are called, are quite frankly, the most painful thing about driving especially through Kingston. Instead of one having the chance to relax at a red light, a battle almost always ensues - a desperate motorist trying to protect his or her windscreen from the clutches of the tyrants. Many may say some of them have no alternative, but this is hardly true as there are always alternatives. As the Jamaica Constabulary Force moves into a new year, with new goals and new strategies, we hope that someone , somewhere will realise that this is fast becoming a major problem. We hope that those in charge will pay some attention to this disturbing trend and that in some way, motorists will be allowed to travel in peace once more. The police pass these persons everyday at various spots and we are sure they have either witnessed or heard about incidents of persons or their property being attacked, why then is nothing done? These persons need to be banned from the streets as they offer nothing but trouble on our roads. |
