Cops accused of gun salute interdicted |

The three policemen, who were allegedly involved in a gun salute at a recent funeral of a slain gang member in Trelawny, have been interdicted. A release sent yesterday from the Jamaica Constabulary Force said "a file is being prepared for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice on possible criminal action." On January 17, the firearms of three policemen and two businessmen were seized, following a reported shoot-out between gunmen and police at a funeral in Bunkers Hill in the parish. The Trelawny police said a funeral was in progress for Patrick 'Junior' McDonald, who was shot dead at a high-profile party on New Year's day. During the procession, shots rang out indiscriminately as persons gave a gun salute. Lawmen went to investigate, but came under heavy gunfire and had to call in reinforcement, police said. firearms were seized Following the incident, police conducted spot checks, during which the firearms were seized. Subsequently, 20-year-old Liston Whittaker was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, while Jerome Henry, 33, businessman, was charged with discharging his firearm within 40 yards of a public gathering.
