From one problem to another

DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM? IS SOMETHING BOTHERING YOU? WRITE TO: TELL ME PASTOR, DR AARON DUMAS, PO BOX 188, KING STREET, KINGSTON. TELEPHONE: 929-1667/8. EMAIL: PASTOR@JAMAICASTAR.COM

Dear Pastor,

I am having serious 'man' problems. I have been with my boyfriend for 10 years. I recently broke up with him because I was tired of his verbally abusive, overprotective and paranoid ways. I tried leaving him, but I could not get the courage to do so.

I finally went abroad a few months ago and met a guy who seemed to be so nice. He helped me to see that there is still hope for happiness, and he was my motivation for breaking up with my boyfriend. My boyfriend cries everyday. He is so devastated and wants us to see a counsellor as he wants to change his ways. He wants to give it another try.

The saying 'all that glitters is not gold' really applies to this new man, as he has so many problems - financially, emotionally and all the other problems you can think of. I gave up the love of my life for sorrow.

What should I do, pastor?

C.A., St Catherine, Jamaica

Dear C.A.,

What you are trying to say is that you probably made a mistake by leaving the man you were with for 10 years. He has come to realise that he didn't treat you with respect, so he wants you back.

In the meantime, you got involved with another man, but you are not happy with him. This new man is broke and can not help you.

What do you believe you should do? Tell the new man to give you a break because you feel burdened right now. Tell your old lover to go for counselling and to give you time to decide what to do.

Pastor
