Think before you shoot

The lead story is Wednesday's STAR brings to light the need for rigid gun control.

According to the article, an 11-year-old boy was shot in the back, allegedly by a licensed firearm holder, and is now in hospital.

The article said the lad and a group of friends were hunting birds in a St Andrew community when the incident unfolded.

He is said to have climbed on to a wall of his alleged attacker's home and following a series of occurrences, he was subsequently shot.

The story also mentioned that the boy was warned by the man's wife to be careful just moments before he rushed outside with the gun in his hand.

Was the boy so much of a threat that only a bullet could stop him?

One would think that these questions must run through people's minds as the police conduct their investigations.

On another note, the situation also shows that people who are granted firearm licences must be tested to see if they are competent enough to carry a firearm.

It may just save a few lives.
