Constables caught in bribery sting

Two special constables, male and female, were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Saturday on reasonable suspicion of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

Allegations are that on Thursday, January 28, the male special constable seized a quantity of illegal compact diskettes from a dealer in Morant Bay. The dealer was taken to a police station but not prosecuted.

On Friday, January 29, the woman special constable solicited the sum of $15,000 from the dealer for the male special constable and herself.

The ACB then received information of the arrangements and a sting operation was carried out during which the special constables were arrested.

Both are now in police custody. A case file is being prepared for a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
