Chinese president to work with Jamaica

President of the People's Republic of China, Hu Jintao, said that his government would like to work with Jamaica to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including politics and the economy for the benefit of both countries.

He was speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Bruce Golding last Thursday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China.

According to a report from CCTV.com, President Hu Jintao spoke highly about the development of bilateral relations between China and Jamaica since the establishment of diplomatic links 38 years ago.

The report also noted that China and Jamaica are both developing countries that have similar tasks and challenges.

Golding, for his part, said that Jamaica looked forward to strengthening cooperation with China, and welcomed more investment from Chinese enterprises.

The prime minister was on a five-day official visit to China, where he met with the Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, with whom he held bilateral talks. Courtesy calls were also made on President Hu Jintao and Vice-President Xi Jinping.

While in China, the prime minister and his delegation held a series of high-level meetings, which covered energy, bauxite/alumina, and a range of investment interests.
