KSAFA Super League campaigners Cavalier continued their giant-killing act in the KSAFA/Claro Jackie Bell Knockout competition when they recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 extra-time win over Digicel Premier League (DPL) contenders Tivoli Gardens in semi-final action at the Harbour View Mini Stadium last night.

Sent behind in the 63rd minute courtesy of a Owen Powell goal, Cavalier fought back and in the 80th minute equalised through Donovan Alvaranga.

With the game seemingly headed for the dreaded penalty shoot-out, Cavalier then snatched the all-important goal in the 14th minute via the head of defender David Laylor.

53rd minute goal

The victory propelled Cavalier into the final where they will play another DPL outfit, August Town, who through a 53rd minute goal from Akeem Thenstead edged Boys' Town 1-0 in the first semi-final, which was also played at the compound.

Cavalier had earlier defeated Waterhouse on the away goal rule after both teams had played to 0-0 and 1-1 in the quarter-finals.

"We stood up well, and are grateful for the win. We didn't have any doubt that we could match up with them as we know we have a quality team," said Cavalier coach, Lamar Morgan.

After a tit-for-tat first half where both teams took the time to assess each other, Tivoli upped the tempo at the start of the second half, and after two close shaves duly took the lead through Powell.

The big forward, who played alongside Roland Dean in the absence of Navion Boyd and Keammar Daley, who are away on national duties, was on the receiving end of a diving save from Cavalier goalkeeper, Everdean Scarlett, and with the goal at his mercy fired home.

But, refusing to play second fiddle, Cavalier went about levelling the game and after a wonderful solo effort from diminutive forward, Loxley Thompson, in which he turned three defenders inside out , Alavaranga found himself on the end of a square from the right, and with substitute goalkeeper Leon Gordon beaten in the air, he chested home.

The game then when into extra- time and with the first half nearing its close, elusive midfielder Oneil Morrison delivered a telling cross to Laylor from the right, on the edge of the six-yard box, and with Gordon again beaten in the air, the big defender headed home.

"It was a scrappy game throughout. We did not start well and we took too long to get a goal, and when you take long to score against these teams you tend to give them a chance to hurt you, and that's what they did tonight," said Tivoli coach, Lenworth Hyde Sr.

"They wanted it more than us, they played harder than us, and they deserve the win more than us," he added.
