Violent acts of an unsound mind |
|||||
A story in Saturday's STAR retells a serious and frightening situation which needs to be addressed urgently. According to the article, a policeman was chopped in the head as he walked past a man, believed to be of unsound mind, last Friday, along Balmoral Avenue in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, when he was attacked. The alleged attacker was subsequently shot and injured by colleagues of the policeman. Such an attack is a reminder that people who walk the streets of our towns are at risk for an attack by the mentally unsound mixed into the homeless population. We see the homeless every day and we and disregard the fact that some of them are like ticking time bombs, whose minds can tell them to attack someone at any time. Without a doubt more needs to be done about people of unsound mind. They should not be left to walk the streets among us - their possible victims. Currently, there is not enough effort being aimed at caring for them. |
