Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall: Ocho Rios Top Ten

With only one audition show left, contestants from Ocho Rios have their chance of making it big. With one million dollars on the line plus a chance at dancehall stardom, Jamaica has the key to opening the door for these young artistes. Vote now and vote plenty; their future depend on it.

Name: Trudy-Ann Higgins


AKA: Mystery Jade

Hometown: Spanish Town, St Catherine

Song: Wah Di Gyal

With big plans to win, this singjay has always seen music as her way out. A past student of Norman Manley High School,Mystery Jaderemembers the days when she used to group up with her friends and deejay. She is confident of winning Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and wants to give back to her community and go back to school while perfecting her music.

AKA: Bumpa

Hometown: St Andrew

Song: No Recession Loving

A telephone operator, she hopes to connect with the audience and win them over. Bumpa, as she calls herself, entered the competition to get her big break. The artiste has been singing since 2004 and has entered other competitions without success. After making the top 10 in Portmore last year she did not advance to theTV round. Bumpa says she is a versatile artiste, with a funky flavour who is ready for the big stage.

Hometown: Exchange, St.Ann

Song: Real Hot Gyal

This artiste has been in the business since 2005 and entered the competition because she believes that she is the best artiste to take the crown. A resident of Exchange, St Ann, this hotel worker wants to use the competition as a means of furthering her musiccareer. The past student of Oracabessa High School says she is a lyrical veteran and is ready to destroy anything that stands in her way.

Hometown: Highgate, St.Mary

Song: Dem Cyah Get Mi Down

This 20-year-old has been a singjay since the age of15 when she attended the St Mary Technical High School. The mother of one says she entered Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall because of her daughter who she wants to give a better life. A cosmetologist by trade, Mackarie has a host of customers voting for her and says she has not seenmany female artistes who have been consistent over the years like the males and wants to change that with the help of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall.

Name: Rochelle Simpson


AKA: Blackberry

Hometown: Portmore, St Catherine

Song: Fully loaded

This 'fully loaded' female deejay has big plans for the competition and has been busy campaigning to win. She wants the exposure provided by Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall and has been in the business for a long time trying to get "a buss". Blackberry got her name from Len Hammond who she used to follow. Now she is on her own and wants to take her music global, as music is universal.

Hometown: Hayes, Clarendon

He did not get through in MoBay andMay Pen but was successful at the Ocho Rios auditions.Summs has been a deejay from his days at Garvey Maceo High School and the artiste professes to be very entertaining and stylish. If he wins Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall,Summsplans to invest in his career, help his family and go back to school.

Song: Beside You

World Wide believes that Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is the best opportunity for young deejays to showcase their talent. A past student of the University of the West Indies, this banking and finance major believes he can profit from the experience he is gaining from the competition. If World Wide wins the competition, he hopes to move on to a Grammy.

AKA: Dre Blunt

Hometown: Kingston

Song: Mi Nuh Have It

Dre Blunt believes Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is a good opportunity for 2.5 million people to see him. Claiming to be versatile, Dre Blunt is a topical artiste and tries to push topics that people can identify with: Mi Nuh Have It is a song people can relate to. The song is meant for ladies to be independent and not depend on men, "and mi believe that it has connected". The artiste wants his name" established worldwide with number-one singles and he believes he is ready for the competition and that this year will be his.

Rhydimtion is a multitalented deejay who says he has entered Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall to win. The culturally aware deejay says he wants people to realise the reality around them and would like to cause a change in the society.

AKA: I-Noah

Hometown: Portmore, St Catherine

Song: No Need To Worry

I-Noah entered Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall to get exposure. A past student of Point Hill All-Age school, this reggae singer believes that his music is a music of compassion and he wants people to accept his words and feelings. This Rastaman believes that he is on a musical journey and that Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is the best way to complete this journey.
