Dear Pastor, I always read your column and you always give good advice. I am 18 and I got pregnant when I was 16. I didn't know who got me pregnant because I had two partners. When my son was born I gave him the wrong man's name. Now my son is older and he looks like the other man. The man I used to speak to is Indian, just like my son. I would like to change my son's name to the other man's name. I do not have the money to do this, so I was wondering if you could help me to change the name at the Registrar General's Department. Thank you, Pastor. L.S., Kingston, Jamaica Dear L.S., I feel very sorry for you. It is so unfortunate you were sexually active at a tender age and became pregnant at 16. Your situation is similar to so many young girls, who engage in sexual intercourse with several men at the same time. You were having sex with two men and when you became pregnant you were not sure who impregnated you. Unfortunately, the man you chose as the father is the wrong man. Now that the child is growing, it is not difficult to see he isn't. As you put it, the biological father is Indian and the child looks just like him. I am not condemning you. Indeed, I am sorry for the dilemma you have found yourself in because now everybody knows you were having sex with two men and you have given one of them a 'jacket' with waistcoat and all. I would like to suggest you go to the Registrar General's Department and speak to one of the clerks about your problem. They would tell you what steps to take to have the last name of your child changed. God bless you, my dear. Let me hear from you again. Pastor |
