APOLOGY

The Gleaner Company Limited in The Star and its internet edition of February 3, 2010 published an article entitled, "Track star suspended for tight pants - Principal says no one is untouchable."

The Gleaner Company is satisfied that the article was totally without foundation and that Mr. Waquar DaCosta was at no time charged by the school with any offence or suspended by the Jamaica College Dean of Discipline or by any other person at the school. The Gleaner Company unreservedly apologizes for any harm or embarrassment which the article may have caused to Mr. DaCosta, his parents or Jamaica College.

Waquar DaCosta wasn't suspended from JC

Contrary to the report given by the group "concerned parents" Waquar DaCosta was not suspended for any infraction of the school rules as reported in The Star of February 3, 2010. The comments reported to have been made by Jamaica College (JC) Principal, Mr. Ruel Reid as reported by The Star were also inaccurate.

The reporter was told explicitly that the Principal had no knowledge of Mr. DaCosta being suspended.

Principal Ruel Reid, would therefore like to use this medium to correct the statements attributed to him that might have caused injury to the reputation of Waquar DaCosta and encourage him to continue to be a positive role model in the school community and for Jamaican youth in general.
