12 held in high-powered weapons find

Twelve men were taken into police custody last evening, following the seizure of two high-powered weapons in Greenwich Town, St Andrew, police said last night.

The weapons, an AK-47 and an M16 rifle along with 22 cartridges, were seized during an operation by the Joint Task Force in the Kingston 13 community, earlier yesterday.

The 12 men have been taken into custody in relation to the seizure and for other offences committed in the St. Andrew South Division, police told THE STAR.

Reports are that between of 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., a team of officers conducted a raid in Greenwich Town.The weapons, which were hidden along the train line in the community, were confiscated. A motorcycle which was also in the vicinity was seized.

Investigations continue.
