Man shot during struggle with cop

A 30-year-old man who allegedly pointed a firearm at a policeman at Sydenham Path, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Saturday was shot and injured during a struggle with the lawman.

The identity of the man is being withheld pending further investigations.

Reports are that about 4:30 p.m., the officer was standing in a section of the community when a pedal cyclist rode up, pulled a firearm and pointed it at him. A struggle ensued during which the gunman was shot with the weapon. The officer escaped injuries.

The man was taken to hospital where he is being treated under police guard.

Investigators from the Spanish Town Police Station say the policeman had received death threats from his attacker, whom he had charged for breaching the Road Traffic Act in December, 2009.
