Where is the music going?

In recent days, there has been reports of incidents involving dancehall artistes which arguably could be used to pen a perfect soap opera.

From decisions to split from a group and then the accusations of violent acts of revenge, all these just make one ask the question: Where is the music going?

Time and time again we have tried to drill into the heads of our deejays the idea that they are role models and need to behave like responsible, sensible-thinking individuals.

Instead, quite a few continue to act in a manner which sends the wrong message to those who watch, listen and, even in some instances, try to mimic them.

Sadly, it seems that some of these artistes believe they must always act as 'tough guys' in order for them to be respected.

While it can be understood that such a show of attitude can help in bringing off their music, the truth is it does not have to be so.

We have far too many persons already acting as tough guys. If you doubt it, just look at the ever-alarming crime rate which, sad to say, is being linked to the music as many argue that violent lyrics help to fuel violent acts.

We really do not need any more persons acting tough, especially our entertainers.

Reports of them being involved in acts of violence is truly disheartening as they are the ones that the kids look up to.

They need to realise that they are truly influential and can indeed be a source of change.
