Vendor killed by motor vehicle

One of the lead stories in the Monday STAR was about a newspaper vendor who died after being hit by a motor vehicle while pushing her cart in Westmoreland.

The story, though seemingly a simple one and one that occurs often in many different forms, is quite touching.

peddling her cart

The tributes from the various persons who knew the woman show that though to some she might have seemed like an ordinary woman peddling her cart, to others she was much more than that.

Perhaps the man who has been taken into custody for hitting her, will never know what a woman she was to her children and to those who would have come to meet her at some point.

This story also shows us just how frail and unpredictable life is - indeed, here today and gone tomorrow is quite a fitting statement. The story reminds us that we must appreciate every moment of our lives, both good and bad, as within the blink of an eye, life as we know it, could be over. Just from reading the story, it is clear that this woman was a strong, hard-working mother who did what she could to support herself and her family. It is indeed sad to see a woman like this go out that way and we cannot even begin to imagine the sheer grief her family must be feeling.
