A man accused of shooting at the police in early February, will reappear in the Gun Court on March 19, when the case will be mentioned. He is Dennis Lawson of Hartlands, St Catherine. When the case was called up in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, the accused, said to be the father of a former West Indies player, pleaded not guilty. Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green told the accused that he is being remanded as it is a serious offence for which he is charged. Detective Sergeant Constantine Campbell of the Spanish Town police, outlined that on February 16, about 2 a.m., police travelling along the Hartlands main road spotted a black Toyota Camry. It is said that explosions were heard coming from the vehicle which sped away. The vehicle was chased and eventually crashed along the Old Harbour main road. Lawson was subsequently arrested and charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. - Rasbert Turner |
