Residents claim cops are targetting them

A number of residents from White Lane, St Cathe-rine, protested along the Naggo Head main road yesterday, accusing the police of firing shots wildly in their community.

The residents told THE STAR that about 4:30 p.m. policemen in blue denim came into the lane and started to fire several shots.

"The police dem just drive, cut off the wire to a sound that a string up, children a come from school started to run and scream," said one resident.

Others claimed the police have being targetting them since they fatally shot Ezron Morris, 33, two weeks ago after he was said to have engaged them in a shoot-out.

The police said he was a suspect in the murder of Corporal Miguel Ebanks, who was found dead in his vehicle in the Portmore area.

"What is needed is a balanced investigation in the matter. Not for the police to be intimidating the residents and angering them. Things cannot continue like this," councillor for the Naggo Head Division, Dr Andrew Wheatley said.

When the St Catherine South police was contacted they claimed that they had no record of the incident.
