Live with Al Fouzia

AL FOUZIA is out to prove she's still the top girl in town whereas LIFEISJUSFORLIVING looks to stake his claim as the new sensation among the colts and geldings when they line up for tomorrow's Thornbird and Prince Consort Stakes respectively.

Rowan Mathie's AL FOUZIA has never been beaten by a local filly and her third-place run behind top colts COLONEL WALES and CLASSY PROSPECT in December's Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes further cemented her claims as the baddest filly around.

Unlike the top colts and geldings who ruled as two year olds last season but now have the emergence of Wayne DaCosta's LIFEISJUSFORLIVING to contend with as three year olds, no filly has come out of the woodwork to challenge AL FOUZIA.

However, due to her victories in two-year-old stakes races in September and October, AL FOUZIA will be giving away weight to all her rivals including Anthony Nunes' REGAL SENSATION who's in at 56.0 kilos.

Nunes' runner must be watched after closing into third behind American-breds CAT FOR A KING and MR ZIP at 1300 metres on February 17. She showed an appreciation for Nunes' decision to remove her tongue-tie, which was replaced with a figure-eight.

REGAL SENSATION galloped out of the chute with the figure-eight fitted Sunday morning and clocked 1:14.3 for six furlongs, a perfect warm-up for the Thornbird Stakes.

With the change of equipment making REGAL SENSATION sharper, she must be a live threat to AL FOUZIA, who only beat her by a length and three-quarter in the Pick-3 Trophy on November 28.

AL FOUZIA's weapon is pace, which REGAL SENSATION lacks badly, often losing ground whenever the field quickens leaving the half-mile.

At 56.0 kilos, she could very well be sitting too close to AL FOUZIA to capitalise on form shown since fitted with the figure-eight.

In addition, she could have traffic to contend with in the 16-horse field, drawn at post-position 10 with the likes of PRINCESS AUDREY and MERIT'S BRITE LITE bound to come dashing down from their wide draws at stalls 14 and 16 respectively.

unbeaten

AL FOUZIA is nicely drawn at post-position two from where she should be able to use her pace to keep the rail run and a catbird seat into the lane on the heels of HERA, SOCA PARTY and PRINCESS AUDREY.

LIFEISJUSFORLIVING is unbeaten in two starts and continues to excite in the mornings. He clocked 1:07.1 for 1100 metres Sunday morning after posting his second eight-length win in 14 days on February 20.

Considering how he won going away at 1200 metres last time out, clocking 1:12.1, LIFEISJUSTFORLIVING should have no problems at 1400 metres, especially with just 53.0 kilos.

One of his rival's for next month's 2000 Guineas, COLONEL WALES, who won the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on Boxing Day, makes his three-year-old debut in the third event, a conditional overnight allowance, also at 1400 metres.

Despite what should be a change of wind direction from third to ninth race when a land breeze could be following LIFEISJUSTFORLIVING in the stretch run, as opposed to COLONEL WALES running into the wind earlier, it will be interesting to note the times of their respective races.

However, COLONEL WALES is ripe for an upset as Spencer Chung's THE GUV looked really improved when winning in 1:12.1 on February 13 and returned to blaze 59.2 at exercise March 2 before topping it off with 1:06.0 for 1100 metres last Sunday morning.
