A St Catherine man, whose vehicle extensively damaged a police service car, was found guilty in the St Catherine Night Court on Friday.

He is Nigel Rhooms of Rosemount Housing Scheme in St Catherine.

When the case came up in court, Rhooms was fined $5,000 or 30 days for careless driving and $10,000 or 30 days for wasting the court's time.

The crown led evidence that on May 29, 2008, about 5:30 a.m., a police unit was responding to a call about an incident on March Pen Road, St Catherine. Upon reaching the intersection of March Pen Road and the Spanish Town Bypass, a Nissan motor car driven by Rhooms, hit the police car causing extensive damage.

The result of the crash resulted in the injury to District Constable Igol Coke of the Spanish Town Police Station.

Investigation by Sergeant Osbourne Fearon resulted in the accused being charged with careless driving.
