Three occupants of a grey Nissan Maxima motor car, registration number 0177 ES, were rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital for treatment on Friday morning for injuries they received in an impact along Highway 2000 about 9:30.

The three, one male and two females, one of whom is said to be pregnant, sustained injuries when, according to the police, the vehicle got out of control and crashed, hitting down the highway security fencing near Old Harbour, St Catherine, and overturned while travelling in an easterly direction towards Kingston.

speeding possible cause

Constable Amin Roache of the Ferry Police Station, who was on the scene when the STAR news team arrived, said he was not sure of the severity of the injuries of the occupants of the motor car. He, however, pointed out that speeding could be the possible cause of the accident.

"We are still making checks, but excessive speeding could be the cause of the accident. The car seems to have got out of control, we have not seen any tyre blownout, but it boils down to speeding and loss of control of the vehicle," said Roache.

The lawman is calling on users of Highway 2000 to cut down on the excessive speeding along that thoroughfare.

Check your vehicle

"Cut down the speeding. Every day we emphasise that speeding is the main cause of 90 per cent of the accidents along the toll road. Cut down; 110 kilometres per hour is the speed limit. Check your vehicle before you leave out," suggested Roache.

The Nissan Maxima was badly damaged and onlookers were overheard saying that the occupants need to count their blessings, as they all could have been killed on the spot.
