Woman fined for unlawful wounding

A young woman was fined $10,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday for allegedly chopping another female whom she caught at her boyfriend's home.

The accused woman is identified as Nastacia Blake of a Corporate Area address. She pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge unlawful wounding.

According to the allegations, the accused woman used a machete to chop the complainant.

Not denying the claim, Blake told the court that she went to her boyfriend's house after a party since she was unable to get a drive when she saw the complainant.

Blake claimed that the complainant threw a bottle at her chest and she hit back at the complainant. After this exchange, the accused woman claimed that the complainant drew a machete and a struggle developed between them. The accused woman claimed that it was during the struggle that the complainant received the injury.

She was given the option of paying $10,000 or spending six months in prison for the offence.
