MURDER SUSPECTS CHARGED

Twenty-five-year-old Dwayne Sterling, otherwise called "Shortman" of Glen Road, Kingston 13 and Anthony Powell, 43, otherwise called "Burusue" of Hanover Street, Kingston, were this week charged for the murders of two men committed in separate incidents in the Corporate Area earlier this year.

Sterling is accused of killing 35-year-old businessman Lavinish Anand of Long Mountain, Kingston 5. Information is that about 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, Anand and employees were locking up his store when they were pounced on by a man armed with a gun. The gunman immediately opened fire hitting Anand, and three others. Policemen on patrol in the area responded and saw a man running from the scene with a gun in hand. He was accosted along Church Street and he fired at the officers and was shot. A Ruger 9mm pistol serial number 31204891 was taken from him. All five persons were taken to hospital where Anand was pronounced dead. Two men ages 19 and 22 were treated and released and a 60-year-old woman admitted in stable condition.

In the other incident, Powell allegedly killed Richard Burke, otherwise called "Richie" of Rum Lane in Kingston. Burke was walking along Tower Street shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, when he was shot. He died at hospital.

Following investigations, police charged Sterling and Powell for the respective murders and illegal possession of firearm. They will face the Gun Court next week.

GUN, AMMO SEIZED, THREE MEN ARRESTED

The Montego Bay police seized an illegal firearm and ammunition and arrested three men at Humming Bird Drive, Paradise, Norwood, St James, yesterday.

Charged are 26-year-old Damion Wallace and Adrian Wallace 18, both of Humming Bird Drive and Nicoy Gordon of Glendevon in the parish.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network's Liaison Officer for St James are that about 5:30 a.m., the police carried out an operation at Humming Bird Drive. A premises occupied by the men was searched and the weapon, a Browning 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition, was found. Investigations continue.

SUSPECTED DROWNING

Fifty-two year-old fisherman, Teddy Garrison of Yallahs, St Thomas, is suspected to have drowned at the Yallahs fishing beach yesterday.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network's Liaison Officer are that about 11 a.m., Mr Garrison left home for a swim and about 30 minutes later his body was found by a resident floating in the sea. The police were summoned and it was removed from the water and taken to the morgue for post-mortem. The Yallahs police are investigating.

CAB DRIVER FOUND DEAD IN FLANKERS

A 52-year-old taxi-operator was shot and killed by unknown assailant/s in his community at Red Dirt district, Flankers, St James, this morning.

Dead is Talbert George Allen of Red Dirt district.

Information received from the CCN's Liaison Officer for St James is that about 6:30 a.m., residents heard explosions in the community and called the police. Investigators who went to the area found Allen's body slumped over the steering wheel of his Toyota Corolla motor car. The crime scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue. The Montego Bay CIB is investigating.
