There was some success for Jamaica over the weekend at the 7th Annual Region du Guadeloupe meet as Commonwealth 100 metres female champion, Sheri-Ann Brooks, along with World Championships representatives, Jovanee Jarrett and Steve Mullings all scored victories in their respective events.

The meet also saw two world-leading times in the men's and women's 400 metres hurdles by the United States' Angello Taylor and Lashanda Demus.

Brooks, who finished joint fourth at this year's World Indoor Championships in the women's 60 metres, raced to a convincing win in the women's 100 metres, a fast 11.08 seconds as countrywoman Sherone Simpson finished third in 11.26 seconds.

Brooks also had a second-place finish in the 200 metres where she clocked 22.92 as the United States' Lashauntea Moore continued her good early-season form by winning the event in 22.46 seconds. Only Jamaica's Veronica Cambell-Brown, who clocked 22.32 seconds to win at the Kansas Relays some two weeks ago, has gone faster.

Brooks was very pleased with her performances.

happy with result

"It was nice to come back to Guadeloupe. It has been a stop on my schedule for the last three seasons. I am happy to have run under the 11.10-second barrier and I am looking forward to next week", she said.

Jarrett, who also competed in Berlin, equalled her season's best of 6.55 metres in winning the women's long jump and was also happy with her result.

"This was a good victory for me. I am working on a new approach on the runway and I am loving it. It will take a while with this new approach, but I feel, with it, I am much faster on the runway," said Jarrett, who is already looking forward to her next competition in Brazil later this month.

Mullings, who was a member of the successful men's 4x100 metres relay team in Berlin, gave the country its third win of the meet when he stopped the clock at 20.28 seconds in the men's 200 metres. The United States Xavier Carter had to settle for second in 20.42 seconds.

There was no luck for World Indoor 60-metre representative Lerone Clarke in the men's 100 metres as the Jamaican had to settle for sixth place in a time of 10.28 seconds. France's Martial Mbandjock took the event in 10.14 seconds as the Glen Mills-coached Daniel Bailey of Antigua finished second with 10.16 seconds, with the United States Mike Rodgers closing out the top three in 10.18 seconds.

Olympic 400-metre hurdle champion Taylor overtook countryman Bershawn Jackson as the world leader in the event, as he clocked 48.16 seconds to defeat World Championships silver medallist Javior Culson of Puerto Rico (48.44).

In the female equivalent, Demus, who like Culson finished second in Berlin, took over the number one spot in the event as she won in 54.09 seconds. The United States Queen Harrison was the previous world leader with 54.66 seconds.

Other results saw World Championships men's 110-metre gold medalist Ryan Braithwaite from Barbados winning the event in 13.41 seconds, and world leader in the women's 100 metres hurdles Damu Cherry of the United States winning the event in 12.74 seconds, ahead of countrywoman Danielle Carruthers.
