The St Catherine North Police have taken a juvenile in custody in connection with a case of robbery at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine yesterday.

Reports from the police are that about 6:30 a.m., three gunmen invaded the hospital compound.

A doctor and two nurses, who were walking on a corridor towards the King of Spain Wing, were held up and robbed.

An elderly female toldthe star she was on her cellphone when she observed the gunmen.

"Dem tek weh di doctor billfold and him phone, and even di nurse dem purse, di ting happen so fast," she said.

Some minutes after the robbery, the police held the teenager who was hurrying away from the compound.

The police said the 16-year-old boy, who is in their custody, is a high school student.

Meanwhile, several employees at the health institution have expressed concern about the safety of workers.

They told THE STAR that while a security company is on the compound, more needs to be done.

"We need security on the perimeter fence, near ward one. We also need panic buttons so the police can be contacted easily. In fact, we believe a police post should be here," a doctor said. Personnel from the Ministry of Health visited the hospital and promised to look into the concerns expressed.

A search was still on for the other men who were said to have escaped on foot in the area.

The St Catherine North Police are investigating the matter.
