TJH assists with the annual procedure

Transjamaican Highway (TJH), developers of Highway 2000, has handed the Portmore Municipality a cheque for $1 million to assist with the annual drain-cleaning exercise in the city.

Jean-François Doreau, Financial Manager of TJH, presented the cheque to Keith Hinds, Mayor of Portmore, along with other members of the Portmore Municipal Council.

"We were contacted through the Mayor's office for assistance with the Hurricane Preparedness Program," said Doreau. He noted that TJH's response was immediate, as the company welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the welfare of its neighbouring community.

The annual drain-cleaning exercise is much needed for the city of Portmore, with its close proximity to the Rio Cobre flood plain.

Mayor Hinds expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that during the hurricane season, the Portmore drains are often clogged with debris, resulting in widespread flooding.

He expects that the donation will assist with getting the drain-cleaning work started and minimising any possible flooding during the current season.
