|||||
|
Dwight Nelson, the Clarendon man who was recently caught on a farm stealing fish, was given a six-month suspended sentence. Nelson had the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday laughing when he explained why he stole the fish. "Your Honour, when a man nuh have God inna him anyting can happen," Nelson said to much laughter. Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece then sentenced Nelson to six months suspended for two years. The accused, however, still continued with the drama after he was sentenced by asking a special favour of the court. "Your Honour, can you ask the owner a di farm to give me a job?" Nelson asked. Allegations before the court are that on July 17, police were called to the Longville Park Farms where Nelson was seen stealing fish. When the police arrived they saw Nelson, who dived into the pond. He remained underwater for a long time, the court was told. With the help of a local diver he was eventually 'fished' from the depths of the pond. Nelson was subsequently charged with praedial larceny. - Rasbert Turner |
