While the disciplinary matters surrounding Sunday's aborted Steve Bucknor Western Masters League second leg semi-final game between Violet Tourers and Hanover Masters remain unsettled, indications are that the competition's final will still be played this Sunday as scheduled. The ill-fated semi-final game, which was played at Jarrett Park, was aborted midway the second half following a fist-fight between former national captain Warren Barrett and referee Donat McKenley. Hanover Masters, who won the first-leg game 4-1 were leading 1-0 at the time. "We will be meeting within 24 hours to make a decision but based on the various reports we have on the incident, it is safe to say it is a forgone conclusion that full points will be awarded to Hanover Masters," said Brian Miller the information officer for the league's steering committee. udc playing field "There is really no reason to have the final drag on beyond Sunday if there is not a compelling reason to." If Miller's projection proves true, the Hanover Masters team will meet Challenger, which emerged 1-0 winners on aggregate following their two-way semi-final against Logwood Stumps, in the final. However, based on the damage that was done to the UDC playing field, which was used as a car park during the recent rain-drenched Reggae Sumfest, it is unlikely that the game will be played there as scheduled. "I was told that remedial work to repair the playing surface is now taking place so we will be waiting to see how things pan out over the next two days," said Miller. "If the field is not ready, Plan B is to take the game to Jarrett Park, if we can afford the cost. If not, Plan C. is to play the game at Kenilworth, in Hanover." In regards to the impending disciplinary action against Barrett and Phillip Wong, who was also implicated in the fight with referee McKenley, Miller said all the requested reports have been submitted and summons will be issued to the two implicated individual shortly to attend a disciplinary hearing. "If they fail to acknowledge the summons, we are prepared to take a decision in their absence," said Miller. "Whatever decision is arrived at will be conveyed to both the Jamaica Football Federation and the St James FA." |
