Educator and former member of parliament, Dr Sydney Beaumont, was viciously attacked and beaten by two gunmen who invaded his home in Mandeville, Manchester.

Reports are that Beaumont was hit in the head, and choked by the criminals who broke into his Fisher Road home last Saturday night.

The criminals, who are characterised as wild animals, are still on the loose.

It is not clear if they took anything from the home.

Beaumont, who is 92 years old, is the founder of Beaumont Comprehensive High School on Caledonia Road in Mandeville, and the author of several books that highlight the life of the parish's citizens who are 100 years and older.

He is also a former president of West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University.

Beaumont, who resides with his wife, is recovering from the attack. The entire Mandeville community is in shock.

Councillor for the Mandeville division, Sally Porteous, has condemned the attack.
