Man accused of smuggling ganja into jail before court

Desmond Grizzle, a man who was allegedly caught trying to smuggle eight ounces of ganja into the Half-Way Tree lock-up, was taken before the court yesterday.

Grizzle, 37, is charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

Allegations are that on July 27 the accused visited the lock-up with some food for an inmate. When the dish was searched, however, a false compartment was discovered. Within that compartment the ganja which was compressed was seen.

Grizzle pleaded not guilty to the charges and his attorney told the court that he was asked to take the food to someone.

The accused is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on August 4.
