A medical practitioner from St Elizabeth will appear in the court next week after being charged with several counts of fraud and breaches of the Real Estate Act following a five-year investigation by Fraud Squad detectives. Dr Oliver Myers, who operates in Santa Cruz in the parish, was formally charged on Monday and is scheduled for the St Elizabeth Resident Magistrate's Court next Wednesday. Investigators told THE STAR that in 2005, the 56-year-old man is alleged to have collected a combined total of nearly $1 million from three persons, promising them housing on a property he claimed he was developing in St Catherine. It is further alleged that he failed to deliver on his promise and the matter was subsequently reported to the Fraud Squad. Following the lengthy investigation, he was picked up on Monday and later offered station bail. |
