Accused says stabbing was an accident

Kadian Everette, the woman accused of stabbing her niece's father with a pair of scissors, had her bail extended until September 5 when she reappeared in court yesterday.

Everette told Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams that she stabbed the complainant unintentionally.

Everette was accused of stabbing her niece's father with a pair of scissors and was charged with felonious wounding.

stabbed in the chest

Everette was last in court on August 17 when the complainant had told the court he was stabbed in the chest area and had to be hospitalised as a result of his wounds.

According to the complainant, on the day of the incident, he went to the residence of the mother of his child, who is also Everette's sister.

He said he visited her at her house with the intent to present her with papers which had been prepared by the Family Court as he wanted to legally secure more time with his child.

The complainant said an argument developed between him and his babymother and Everette eventually got involved. The heated argument led to the accused stabbing him with the scissors.

He said she stabbed him after accusing him of wanting to take away her niece from the care of her mother, even though he had explained to her he was only interested in shared custody.

The accused denied the allegations.

She told the court she became involved in the argument after she advised the complainant to leave the premises after he had already served the papers to her sister.

However, he was reluctant to leave and became boisterous. She said the complainant then shoved her sister and she went to her sister's assistance which led to him being stabbed.

The accused told the court she had the scissors in her possession because she was using it to style her sister's hair.
