Robbery, high-speed chase in Liguanea

High drama unfolded yesterday in St Andrew when gunmen carried out a daring robbery in Liguanea, engaged security guards in a high-speed chase resulting in an accident, with the police eventually apprehending the suspects and the loot.

Police said the men robbed individuals and made off with $800,000.

A witness, Richard Wight, who was on the scene, told The Star that two men who were armed with guns forced a security guard from the establishment to carry one of them on a bike, while riding off on another of their own.

The men were, however, chased by another set of security guards down Old Hope Road. Upon reaching Stanton Terrace, the kidnapped security guard crashed his bike into a motorist's car resulting in the robbers being flung from the cycle.

Onlookers went to the assistance of the crash victims, however, they soon realised that the men had guns and backed away. Police officers close by realised what was happening and chased the gunmen. One of the gunmen was shot and taken to the hospital. His condition at the moment is unknown. The police, however, recovered all of the money which was stolen.
