Police accused of perjury

A man who is claiming that his case is one of mistaken identity, threatened officers that they should not come to court bearing false witness against him.

"That is perjury," Neville Arthurs said when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magis-trate's Court yesterday, charged with robbery with aggravation. He told the court that he did not commit such an offence and they have charged the wrong person.

When the matter was called up, Arthurs told the court that he walks with a crutch and he is innocent. "Mi hardly can walk and dem seh mi ride bicycle and rob a woman," he commented.

Arthurs also told the court that he was present when the complainant told the police that they have the wrong person, as his description does not match the one the complainant gave to the police.

Arthurs is to return to court on October 7, when Resident Magis-trate Shelly Williams will determine a verdict.
