Parish council - vendors must move from the streets
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

With complaints continue to file in from business persons, motorists and other users of the roads, the St Catherine Parish Council said vendors must move from the streets.

The council's Commercial Services Manager Ferdinand Page said the vendors are on the streets illegally and will have to removed. "The vendors should have been off the streets from July 25, this year, as the grass yard section of the market has been made ready for them. So they must move inside or they are very likely to be prosecuted, '' Page said.

When The Weekend Star checked several vendors along French and Market streets, their common views are that the market space is just too small.

"Although the place is finished, it's just not adequate for the number of vendors that come in from the country, especially on the weekends," a vendor said.

Meanwhile, Page said the council is determined that good order must be seen on the streets of the 'Old Capital' for orderly development to take place.

The Weekend Star observed a number of vendors sprawl off on the streets, which cause users of the road to be playing Hopscotch with passing vehicles.

Members of the Island Special Constabulary Force told The Weekend Star that they would continue to prosecute persons who vend illegally on the streets.
