A number of Children from the Waterloo community near Ewarton, St Catherine, were treated by Olympian Asafa Powell and his family on Sunday. The treat took place at the Redemption National Church of God in Waterloo. During the day's activities, 41 children were given gift packages of bags, pencils and books and were also presented with passbooks to encourage savings. A special highlight of the function, was the interaction between beauty queen Yendi Phillipps and the children. ''It felt very special for me to be able to give something to these children. I trust it will help them in their back-to-school endeavour,'' Phillipps said. The second-place winner of the Miss Universe competition was very busy handing out the gifts to the children. Joy crept over the faces of the children as they received their packages. "I am thankful for the gift and especially the bankbook. This can help mi parents fi save some money for me," little Samantha said. It was a special day for the children, who were also fed and encouraged to be discipline and put God first. Pastor Cyslin Powell prayed for the safety of the children and told The Star that Yendi and Asafa were instrumental in providing the gifts for the children, ... a gesture he said was really special.
